Olivet Wrestling team wins Midwest Regional title, qualifies five for DIII National Championships
www.olivetcomets.com

James Myers (Indian Creek) picked-up a bye for his first round match and then pinned Matt Tuttle from Alma in the quarterfinals and defeated Matt Lowry from Thiel, 10-4. In the championship match, he used an escape in third sudden death period to beat George Markou from Trine, 2-1. Myers will be making his second trip to the national championships, as he earned All-American honors in 2011 with a sixth-place finish.

Senior heavyweight Taylor Potts (Wellsburg, W.Va./John Marshall) placed third after earning a 3-1 record with two falls. He tied the W&J school record for single-season victories after finishing with a 36-11 mark this winter. Potts tied DeJuliis for the single-season wins record which the former All-American set in 2003.

Potts, who also tied senior teammate Zach Cecchetti (Apollo, Pa./Kiski Area) with 83 career victories (4th in school history), pinned Alma’s Mason Ley in 2:48 in his first match before falling to Waynesburg’s Brandon Fedorka 4-1. He bounced back to defeat Thiel’s Will Ringer 7-6 and then Case Western Reserve’s Cale Harter in 30 seconds by fall.

PEMBROKE, N.C.  – West Liberty University senior Jarrod Shaw (Brooke) won the 157-pound championship Saturday afternoon as the NCAA Division II Super Region One wrestling tournament concluded its two-day run at the English E. Jones Center on the campus of UNC-Pembroke.
As a regional champion, Shaw will lead a three-man contingent of Hilltopper grapplers to the 2012 NCAA Division II National Wrestling Championships, which will be held March 9-10 in Pueblo, Colo.
Fellow senior J.D. Ramsey punched his third NCAA national qualifying ticket with a third-place finish at 285 pounds while junior Matt Littleton finished fifth at 174 pounds but earned a trip to Pueblo with an impressive win against a higher-seeded wrestler in a True Fourth Place match.
The top four finishers in all 10 weight classes at the regional level are awarded spots in the national championship meet.

Welcome to OVAeC Wrestling

(Ohio Valley Athletic ex Coach) The purpose of this web site is to promote O.V.A.C. wrestling and the individuals that make it all possible. I don't proclaim to know everything about the
O.V.A.C.'s or wrestling, but I have coached in the O.V.A.C.'s for the past 8 years so I do have some knowledge of the sport, coaches and the wrestlers(2002).
