Caldwell wrestlers win at Magnolia

NEW MARTINSVILLE, W.Va. -- The championships keep rolling in for Caldwell High as the Redskins took home first place honors at the Magnolia Invitational on Saturday.

Caldwell finished with 157 points to lead Parkersburg South B (121), Magnolia (116), Barnesville (114) and Oak Glen B (98).

The Redskins had three first-place finishers and four second-place finishers.

"We wrestled fairly well," Caldwell coach Dustin Robison said. "We had seven guys in for first and second place. I would've liked to see a couple other guys get third or fourth, though. I thought we wrestled well overall, but there's some little things I would've liked to see that we'll need later on if we want to make a run."

At 103 pounds, Jeremy Border went 2-0, defeating Josh Bartrug of River by pin in 3:29 to capture first place.

Seth Todd wrapped up the 160-pound division with a 8-7 decision victory over Bobby Richmond of Bishop Donahue.

In the heavyweight division, Tom Schenkel defeated Beallsville's George Ruckmen 2-1 in a double overtime thriller to take first place.

At 125 pounds, Jacob Border lost a 4-2 decision to Magnolia's Devon Phillips in the finals.

Clint Boyd fell to Barnesville's Kody Crooks by a 6-2 decision at 140 pounds.

Pat Pickenpaugh lost a 19-5 majority decision to Paden Stewart of River at 171 pounds while John Boney was pinned in 3:52 by Derrick Rovira of Weirton in the 215-pound division.

"We did well," Robison said, "but there's some things we'll need to work on in practice if we want to contend at sectionals and on the state level."

The Shamrocks finished with five individual champions.

Clay Crosier kicked things off at 112 pounds with a 2-0 decision victory over Kole Koper of Oak Glen B.

At 119 pounds, John Barker defeated Oak Glen's Dominick Burchett by technical fall at the 5:30 mark.

Quentin Castello captured the 130-pound division with a victory by fall over Jess Bennett of Weirton at the 1:55 mark.

Kurtis Jefferis defeated Parkersburg South's Cody Richards by a 10-2 majority decision in the 145-pound division and Crooks defeated Boyd of Caldwell at 140 pounds.
